Groovetrain
Right before midnight, on the 28th of September, year of our Lord 2009, I finished coding up what I think will probably be the main logic for the demo. It compiles, but I haven’t even tried to run it yet; checked it in on my private CVS to make sure that I saved it before making tweaks, major and minor, when trying to get it to actually work. I think I’m definitely ready to try and have more than me working on this darned thing. I think I have a lot of the theory figured out, stuff that people could understand, other than me, and give input on. The paradigm has legs, in my opinion. It is not yet fully generalized, the big problem, but I have ideas on that. Hopefully will get this demo working by end of week, then I can take it easy again. Wish me luck.

Quote
I believe that pure thinking will do more to educate a man than any other activity he can engage in. To afford sympathetic entertainment to abstract ideas, to let one idea beget another, and that another, till the mind teems with them; to compare one idea with others, to weigh, to consider, evaluate, approve, respect, correct, refine; to join thought with thought like an architect till a whole edifice has been created within the mind; to travel back in imagination to the beginning of the creation and then to leap swiftly forward to the end of time; to bound upward through illimitable space and downward into the nucleus of an atom; and all this without so much as moving from our chair or opening the eyes — this is to soar above all the lower creation and come near to the angels of God.

Leap
I am in the thick of things. Where the rubber hits the road, and the car takes off screeching. Patterns and metapatterns, canonical English semantics and logical deductions. Symmetry, generalization, apperception. All the really good stuff why I decided to go this road 8 years ago or so. It’s going surprisingly well, my work, my dream: implementation of it leads me to hammer out the details of what I’ve been thinking in the airy heights, and discovering that I’ve not divorced myself so much from practicality of late, since I actually did get something working. If I get this demo version ready by the end of next week, I’ll be ecstatic. Probably literally; I’ve been known to get physically high off ideas before. So here goes.
I guess I’m still a little shocked that all this seems like I’m going to get it to work. After that, though, there’s some paperwork I need to get done, I suppose. On the back of my mind is that I’ll have to write up some treatment of the theory I’m utilizing, and I’ve already started a list of what expenses I’ll be needing to get funding for to get something production quality going. I’m dreading having to write up an actual business plan for the whole shebang. I have a couple three leads on investors who may be interested in what I have going. Though if it does what I think it will, people have been telling me that I shouldn’t be hurting for money. Sure, I won’t get everything working like I really want, but the demo should be compelling enough with what I’m putting into it, as far as the plans are going. Woo and hoo.
I’ve been thinking about the ex again. Remembering all the way back to December 2003... I think on the first day, the first evening we met, the first look: I remember the instant attraction I felt, the look of surprise on her face as perhaps she was not expecting to be attracted, too. But there we go. Who knows, though, if it will all come to naught or not? I for one think not, that there will be a future with us together again, though I’m not sure why I’m so certain of this. Perhaps, call it a kind of faith. It’s not impossible, after all, and we have quite the history of on again off again. It’s just that this time it might be different: the last two times, I was looking elsewhere when she popped up, out of the blue; and I think I want this time that I’m expecting it the whole way. For some reason this makes sense to me. But who knows?
In which there is something at work in my life that hope dies not.

you
you are known to me, like the taste of certain words
chocolate, breathing, silver; the taste of joy and light
you have become a memory in the hard wires of idea
like gold, your image is incorruptible, and precious
so far away, yet closer to me than anything i can touch
dreaming of you left me so incomplete, but so happy
i think to forget, but like love, you are known to me

Strangely Fantastic
True, I did take it a bit easier in August, after I finally did get something working. But as September popped up on the calendar, my focus re-intensified. I’ve tried a couple times to start implementing, but things kept nagging me back in theory land. All I’ve tried to concentrate on, since I talked to my friend Bob, is to create a compelling demo for investors. But I’ve done better, I think. I think I have a model for the actual thing I’ve always wanted to build. And the demo will come as a side-effect, and it will be quite awesome, if I’ve got this thing right that I’m coming up with. The implementation is starting to form in my head, and I hope this spills over into actual coding very soon, if not immediately. But things are strangely fantastic. Still, everything but the girl. As it goes.

Closer
I see it time and again, where there are programming and other such problems in the world, how my AI could in theory handle how to solve them. Flashes of sliplogic, the operation of my dreaming. I have added date after date to my note that all things will fall into place, August 26th, 30th, September 1st, 4th, 8th, as the jigsaw falls into place. I reached a second stability point on 8/28, with the simple realization that a metapattern can be treated like any other pattern. And I last wrote that I was going to start implementing, but in fact, I had to go back to theory for a bit; however, like I say, everything seems to be falling into place. It’s scary.
In other news, my cousin (whom I refer to as “my uncle the sushi chef” since he’s actually my dad’s cousin, but he’s my age) anyway, he’s getting married. Next week. Getting the suit all dry cleaned as we speak. Supposedly, it’ll be a small wedding here, but a big one (a second one) to come located in Korea sometime next year. He said I don’t have to buy them a wedding present till then. In related news, my parents have stopped trying to set me up on any more blind dates of late; that’s kind of sad, actually. And in still related news, the ex still hasn’t contacted me, but for some reason I keep expecting her to. Oh well, like I always say, it’s better to hope and be wrong.
And what else? I actually took Labor Day off, as in, I did no work that day. I normally don’t do any work on Sunday, either — been pretty good at keeping the sabbath holy and free from ordinary labor. So that was kinda weird, two days without really thinking about the project at all. Sunday my roommate had a few friends over, his closest crowd, one of which I’m doing that iTaxiNYC thing with. I gave them indian head pennies. I really like giving money away. We had steak. And you should know that my roommate cooks the best steak in the city. So there you have it, life as it chases a dream, wondering if that queasy feeling in the stomach is dreading hardship to come, or of success?
In which I can’t quite believe how close I actually am.

You may fancy the Lord had His own power to fall back upon. But that would have been to Him just the one dreadful thing. That His Father should forget him! — no power in Himself could make up for that. He feared nothing for Himself; and never once employed His divine power to save Himself from His human fate. Let God do that for Him if He saw fit. He did not come into the world to take care of Himself... His life was of no value to Him but as His Father cared for it. God would mind all that was necessary for Him, and He would mind the work His Father had given Him to do. And, my friends, this is just the one secret of a blessed life, the one thing every man comes into this world to learn.

Wrought
There had been a stability that had formed on 5/14, I marked that date — that made it possible for me to complete the simple implementation of syllogistic logic. There came after that milestone a cycle of perturbation and coagulation, of more creation, destruction, and alteration of theory, as the idea came to develop with the sole intention of creating a compelling demo. And as I wrote before, everything then started falling into place. Now is come for do or die, to implement the high ideas that has been wrought with so much sweat, with the thought so deep as to breach the point of pain. But all I have fought for may all be worth it. Stay tuned, true believers.
