Satori
Of late, I’ve been riding a satori of idea: a high, of sorts, that carries me through my waking day, as if it leaked from dreaming: an ever present sense that it’s going to work out; or better, that what I am working on will somehow transcend. Even when it is not in the foreground of my being, it is like a bedrock on which my mind is currently resting. It’s really coming together, the dream touching down. One might go as far as saying as like that I am living a movie, and that the Force is with me. The future remains uncertain, it is true, and may not bear me out, but as far as I’m feeling as to what destination appears on my horizon, my day looks golden.
It goes as well as could be expected with Carol (this is the one from North Carolina). She mentioned she might be coming up to New York at one point, perhaps soon. That should prove interesting, having only had the one photo of her. Though on her profile she selected for herself the appearance “very attractive”. Myself, I only picked “attractive”. But anyway, talking on the phone on a regular basis. My mom said she’s working on one of two dentists in the area. Does dentistry somehow turn people off, that there should be a glut of them on the market, as it were? Perhaps only the females? But nothing yet as far as any email addresses with which to contact them. We shall see what we shall see.
What else is going on? I saw Tropic Thunder relatively recently. It was wrong on many levels, but done well, which seems to be the new Hollywood formula for comedies. Robert Downey, Jr. was especially good, using a voice his father used when overdubbing a part played by a black man, this when he was growing up. I’m sure you’ve seen the commercials, and yes, I realize that this is a little dated. My brother is in town again, and it was with he and his girlfriend Angie that I saw that movie with. I had them over, a few days ago, and she said she was afraid to use my bathroom. Yeah, I never clean it. I should clean it. I feel like I’m so busy though, if merely in deep thought. The project sucks everything out of me. Not that I don’t enjoy it. And that’s that.
In which I see a light, distinctly, at the end of the tunnel.

Quote
Faith is not an opinion, but a certitude. "The substance of things hoped for," says the Apostle — not the phantasies of empty conjecture. You hear the substance. You may not dispute on the faith as you please; you may not wander here and there through the wastes of opinion, the byways of error. By the name, "substance," something certain and fixed is placed before you; you are enclosed between boundaries, you are restrained within unchanging limits.

Calling myself crowfeather, I should have at least something Native American: this is my dreamcatcher, which is at the head of my bed. Interesting how it fits exactly over the photo, which was there before I even moved in.

Physics
It’s all beginning to come together, somehow sublime at times, sometimes at the brink of desperation. I am beginning to burn through theories about how all this should function, now. I was wrong: I have yet to discover the splendid simplicity; or perhaps I even have, but misinterpreted it when I scribbled it down. I wrote that in my logbook: “Don’t create, discover.” Try to tune into the cosmic page where God has written all the great poetry. I imagine it will hit me all at once, or at least, I have dreamed that it would. I could write lesser versions of my vision; I could do it tomorrow (speaking flippantly). But I cannot be satisfied, or something inside me won’t let me be satisfied with that. I am now obsessed with finding the primal equation, the sublime iteration. I just hope I don’t burn through all my money before I glance the physics of virtual cognition. And so it goes.

Quote
When Abraham sat at his tent door, according to his custom, waiting to entertain strangers, he espied an old man, stooping and leaning on his staff, weary with age and travail, coming towards him, who was a hundred years of age; he received him kindly, washed his feet, provided supper, caused him to sit down; but observing that the old man ate and prayed not, nor begged a blessing on his meat, he asked him why he did not worship the God of heaven. The old man told him that he worshipped the fire only, and acknowledged no other God. At which answer Abraham grew so zealously angry, that he threw the old man out of his tent, and exposed him to all the evils of the night and an unguarded condition. When the old man was gone, God called to Abraham, and asked him where the stranger was. He replied, "I thrust him away, because he did not worship thee." God answered him, "I have suffered him these hundred years, though he dishonored me; and wouldst thou not endure him one night?"

Goings On
I’ve tried everything I could to get Eun Hye back into my life, but it seems she’s decided for one reason or another that it cannot be so. She said in her note to me (that came with my birthday present) that I’m too good for her. That really doesn’t fly with me as a reason. But whatever. It’s going relatively well with the one in North Carolina, even if she seems a little normal for my tastes, but perhaps sanity is just what the doctor ordered. We shall see what we shall see. It seems my mom is still trying, on her end, to find yet someone else. But you know the score with me and the elders, if you’ve been following this blog at all. And stuff.
As the project is, everything seems to take longer than I thought it would; everything I think I have figured out is premature. Even abstractly; I thought I had it nailed down so many times, so many times did I go back and see how I’d missed major things along the way. I’m beginning to understand why: the pieces I figure out later are more fundamental, and therefore more difficult to define. I need to whittle out a context before the guts of it can be carved out. They are necessarily vague, the ideas I work with; until what is required of the definitions is itself defined. The different terrains mapped before I figure out what kind of rubber needs be in the tires when they hit the road, as it were. But it goes, continues to be figured out. Rarely am I stuck for long, and Lord be praised for that.
I keep getting stuck in epistemology. I have a Plan B worked out, simply abstracting every word in a phrase with its synonyms, and building a neural-network type matching system to obtain results based on such matching. But I want actual understanding in the thing I’m creating. Now, how does one define that? What is the basis for knowledge, that is feasible to implement on a machine? I think I might have an answer, as I have defined meaning as a change in state. The splendid simplicity I wrote of before turns out to be the concept of a matrix and a potential in that matrix, a means by which everything can be structured, which can be known. And that’s the tune, right now, the song I am singing. From this comes the future.
In which I learn that I have learned.

The wonder of the life of Jesus is this — and you will find it so and you have found it so if you have ever taken your New Testament and tried to make it the rule of your daily life — that there is not a single action that you are called upon to do of which you need be, of which you will be, in any serious doubt for ten minutes as to what Jesus Christ, if he were here, Jesus Christ being here, would have you do under those circumstances and with the materials upon which you are called upon to act.

Ingredients
Lost at Go by only 16.5. At times I could feel it, the advantage shifting from it to me, but alas, I could not sustain such an advance. But progress. In other news, as far as the project goes, the second wave of realization came over me the other day, the simple question (now as the rubber is beginning to hit the road), “Will it work?” Perhaps I should plan for the worst, hope for the best. What else can I do but get on with it? So I continue, as well as the fates allow. And in still other news, I got a present from Eun Hye, a belated birthday gift, and a short note on how she’s doing. I’ve emailed her some more, and see she’s been visiting here. Interesting. And along that vein, I’ve gotten some interest in my online profile at that dating site. Someone from North Carolina. We’ll see how all this ends up. But the mix is definitely not lacking in ingredients.

silver dreaming
in the silver dreaming came i to the fountain
from where time flows
the beginning’s beginning is neither
darkness nor light, but like a hunger
the dreaming like unto a stream that dips
from eternity into creation
having no taste, light without source, still, a
quiet like a lower thought
i swam down my own fate, began to drown
in the fluid consequence
awoke in the bed of my childhood, as if to
remake all my mistakes
and as if the dreaming itself awoke, here, i
made my bed in heaven

Gettin' in Tune
Playing some more Go, I began again to see where the algorithm strained. My best has incrementally improved to losing only by 23.5. Getting there, I suppose. I find where I really lack skill is my middle game, having read mostly the beginning of that book I told you about, where they talk about opening moves, not having reached the part where they describe the strategies of the middle game. The thing I worry about is that I’ll learn how to “game” the program, and not really learn good Go. Perhaps I should try playing people on Yahoo games, where I won the one game I played there years ago. I mean, before Korea. Strange how things come up.
I sent Eun Hye a rather outrageous email — nothing bad — and I am wondering if she’ll respond. Let it marinate, I suppose. Details on just what I sent I withhold until such time as I deem appropriate. In that general front, I have had some interest in my online dating profile, but all from women who don’t have a photo. I mean, how difficult is it to find one picture of yourself, especially now that all photography is basically digital? And in other, quite different news, my air conditioner broke, and I got ripped off with buying a new unit, but they installed it and it works, and it’s so hard to be mad when I’m this cool and comfortable. And that’s life, I suppose.
I suppose the project is not life, per se. It’s like air, at this point, so ubiquitous in my survival. July 30-31 was incredibly productive (worked 26 hours with a few little breaks interspersed), and I came up with an outline for an end-to-end reasoning capability. It’s still a little abstract, but these days, everything also has a practical bent to it, for I have been understanding what it takes to code such the thing that I am doing. Friday I took it easy, more or less, since the previous session had been so intense. Working, but at a leisurely pace. When I set myself to code some more, this will be my third iteration at the implementation to the thing. Maybe this one will stick.
In which I bring a storm to life.
